(JW Insights) Sep 20 -- World energy giant Shell has opened its largest global electric vehicle charging station in southern China’s Shenzhen City. The station will be operated by Shenzhen Shell BYD Electric Vehicle Investment Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Shell and BYD, JW Insights learned.

The charging station is located 2.5 kilometers from the Shenzhen Airport terminal and is equipped with 258 public fast charging devices. During the trial operation period, it charged more than 3,300 EVs daily.

In addition to charging, the station also offers services such as Shell SELECT convenient retail, coffee, dining, vending machines, and a lounge for customers. The solar photovoltaic panels installed on the roof of the station generate an annual electricity output of 300,000 kilowatt-hours, which is entirely used for vehicle charging.

Shell is also expanding into other energy and mobility markets in China. Recently, Shell launched a "ten-in-one" integrated energy station in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province. It provides customers with more than ten types of travel products and services, including gasoline and diesel, EV charging, hydrogen refueling, convenience stores, car wash facilities, restaurants, and driver lounges. The station also supplies Shell V-Power Racing, which was recently launched in China.
